Current Status

A total of 2799 MAGs (Neighborhood Disaster Volunteers) from 66 neighborhoods located within Kocaeli, Istanbul, Yalova and Izmir provinces have completed the standard basic training program and signed cooperation protocols with the Civil Defense

Neighborhood Disaster Support (NDS) Centers have been established and fully equipped within these 66 neighborhoods; VHF two-way radio communications system has been set up with the Civil Defense.

Neighborhood Disaster Support Committees have been formed, trained and activated

The NDS model has been created and is being tested under various conditions

Institutionalization efforts are under way to insure sustainability of the model

Who Can Join the MAGs?
Men and women between the age of 18-55 who:
Are residing and planning to stay in the neighborhood for a long time
Are good team players and dedicated to volunteerism
Have no serious physical handicap or health problem
Have no record of conviction of a felony

Neighborhood Disaster Volunteer Programme (NDV) is being implemented by MAG Foundation within the Marmara Region of Turkey with the cooperation of the Provincial Governors and the Civil Defense Directorates in accordance with the Civil Defense Regulations applicable to voluntary participation in the Civil Defense Services.
